  • Dhanaulti(288 Km) & Mussoorie(287 Km) -

Dhanaulti and Mussoorie are the places which receive decent snowfall in winters. Uttarakhand is sprawled at the foothills of snow-clad mountains which makes it a repository of natural beauty and also a hub of many exciting adventure sports and skiing is one of them. Uttarakhand has some of the skier’s perfect hamlets which are listed below.

Auli:

Auli is a tiny alpine town nestled in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, at the distance of approx 13 km from Joshimath’s main city. It is ranked as the top ski resort in India due to its well-maintained pistes of both, the low & high altitude. Auli skiing slopes are well suited for all levels of skiers- beginners, intermediates & professionals. It has 500 m. & 800 m. long chair lifts to serve high pistes. Auli has Asia’s longest cable car after Gulmarg, long as 04 Kms, connecting this popular holiday resort with Joshimath city. It also bags the honor of hosting 1st South Asian Winter Games in the year 2011. The best ski season for skiing in Auli lasts for two months Jan & Feb. And if you want to join the winter carnival then it is better to come in February. The dates of Auli’s winter carnival 2020 yet not declared but the estimated idea is mid-Feb to last Feb. Recently Auli received its first snowfall in November which is good news for the skiers and we are hoping that this season will be good for the skiers. If you don’t know how to do skiing or you want to learn skiing then Auli has a good number of professionals who conduct skiing learning courses where you can apply for the course.
  • Where to stay: Auli has the hotels/resorts of Deluxe & Semi deluxe categories.
  • Other places to visit: Auli is the perfect retreat for the summer holidays also. Auli has a plethora of tourist attractions like Badrinath Shrine, Valley of flower, Gurson Bugyal & Hemkund Shahib.
  • How to reach: By Air: The nearest airport is Jolly Grand. The distance is 275 Km from Jolly grand to Auli. By Rail: Rishikesh/Haridwar Railway station is the nearest railhead to reach Auli at a distance of 250/285 km.

Munsiyari:

Khalia Top/Betulidhar is a quaint ski spot located at an easy uphill trek of 07 km from Munsiyari town in Pithoragarh. Khalia top, perched at an altitude of 3500 m. has slight steep ski slopes, which are best for novices/first-timers. Khalia top has ski school also which conduct basic ski course. The best ski season at Munsiyari is from December to February.
  • Where to stay: Khalia top, has not very much hotel/lodging option, but Munsiyari can be alternate halt location which offers numerous choice of regional/traditional home-stays & basic, deluxe & luxury hotels.
  • Other places to visit: Munsiyari & Chaukori are two charming hill stations, which can be done whilst at the Khalia Skiing trip.
  • How to reach: By Air: The Pantnagar airport is nearest at a distance of 190 km from Munsiyari. By Rail: Kathgodam Railway station is the nearest railhead to reach Munsiyari at the distance is a 215 km distance.

Mundali:

Mundali is one of the untouched ski resorts of Uttarakhand, located near to the famous hill station of Chakrata (at the distance of 35 Kms). Mundali, a small hamlet, rest at an altitude of 2775 m. Mundali has many off-pistes that are perfect for beginners & the practitioners can try their hand at the slopes of high altitude from 2770 m. to 3,049 m. Mundali is one of the emerging ski destinations, thus has limited ski facilities. The best ski season at Mundali is from December to February.
  • Where to stay: Chakrata is the nearest halt location with the option of basic, deluxe & luxury hotels.
  • Other places to visit:: Chakrata, Kanasar, Tons Valley are easily accessible tourist spot near to Mundali.
  • How to reach: By Air: The nearest airport to reach Mundali is the Jolly Grant airport, at a distance of 156 Kms. By Rail: Dehradun Railway station is the nearest railhead to reach Mundali. From Dehradun, Chakrata is a 125 km distance.

Over the years Shimla has been crafted as one of the most famous tourist attractions in the country. The hill station has a lot to offer and when it comes to planning vacations, it becomes quite difficult as there are many places one could cherish. Well, this blog will help you to plan your vacation.


  • Jakhoo Temple - If you are a devotee of Lord Hanuman then this a mandatory place to visit. The place has a 108ft high Lord Hanuman statue but more exciting is the story behind it. When the furious battle of Ramayan was being fought, Lakshman was hit by a deadly arrow from the bow of Meghnath, and then the eternal devotee of Lord Rama took the initiative to protect Lakshman and flew to fetch Sanjeevni Booti but by the enchanting beauty of the valley and the herbs get confused for the right one. So, he took the entire mountain with him. And rested at a place and its Jakhoo Temple and this accounts for the flattened shape of the hill. The place is considered to be sacred and has imprints of the Lord’s feet. It's just 7 km away from the railway station.

  • Baba Bhalku Rail Museum - The museum was inaugurated on 7th July 2011 is a tribute to the man who guided the railway line. Bhalku was labor who worked on the railway line but he was not just normal labor. Whenever there was a problem with the track engineers used to get advice from Bhalku. He had some supernatural powers that allowed him to a complicated task very easily even the English men used to appreciate his art. The railways' lines in Shimla are building on the way guided by Bhalku. The museum has cautiously preserved lost and found register and boxes. The old English clocks, cutlery and train parts from the early 20th century. Moreover, one could easily find wine glasses and vases on the display. So, if you like to live in the past then this place is just 1 km away from Shimla Railway Station and a couple of hundred meters from Old Bus Station.

  • Viceregal Lodge - There is one more astonishing architectural monument from the British Era which was built for Lord Dufferin. It's also called as Rashtrapati Niwas. The built is majestic as it was supposed to be resident for the Viceroy of India. Now the lodge is just an exhibit of royalty. If you want to pay a visit to the lodge then it's just 3 km away from Shimla Old bus stand.

  • The Toy Train Ride - This is going to be one of the best adventures of your life. The trains travel with a speed of 25-30 km/h and pass through 102 tunnels, around 870 bridges and more than 20 stations on its way. The ride will bless you with nature’s beauty.  The ticket costs 500/person and one should book it one month prior to the ride via IRCTC the concerned station are Kalka (KLK) and Shimla (SML).

  • Rothney Castle - At a distance of 15 km away Shimla's old bus stand the castle flourishes amidst the greenery.  The chirping birds welcome you as you step up the steep slopes of Jakhu Hill. This place was once the home of the famous British officer Allan Octavian Hume. He was the founder of Indian National Congress and is credited to be the father of Ornithology.  The castle is not alone the attraction but the wild berries and blooming beautiful flower put a feather on the hat.

  • Shoghi - At a short drive of 15 km from Shimla you will reach a small suburb, Shoghi. It is a place which is famous as a landmark for numerous temples. It's a perfect place for a spiritual break.  The place not only holds spiritual value but its also famous for its camping sites and trekking. If you love to buy indigenous products then you will be delighted by purchasing pickles and jams which are locally home prepared.

  • Himachal State Museum  - The city museum is a couple of kilometers far away from the Old Shimla Bus Station. The building has been a resident of British officials but after independence, it was a residence of Government Officials. On 26 January 1974, it was transformed into a museum with an aim to preserve the heritage of Himachal Pradesh. There are lots of Pahari and Rajasthani miniature paintings. Moreover, the Mughal paintings have been put on display as well.   The museum also hosts a library with more than 10000 books, journals, and magazines. When you step into the museum it will take you to the pre-Independence era and you will be exploring historical stuff.
